Mathematics Competitions

1) International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO)

In 2019, five students from Olympiads School, William Zhao, Victor Rong, Thomas Guo, Howard Halim, and David Tang had been selected to the national team to represent Canada to compete in the IMO in Bath, England.

  • Gold Medal: Victor Rong
  • Silver Medal: Howard Halim
  • Bronze Medal: William Zhao, David Tang, Thomas Guo

2) Canadian Mathematical Olympiad (CMO)

In 2019, the top 3 contestants of the CMO, which was held on March 27th, were all from Olympiads School. They were:

 

  • First Place: William Zhao, with prize $2000 and a champion trophy
  • Second Place: Victor Rong, with prize $1500
  • Third Place: Howard Halim, with prize $1000

 

Two students from Olympiads School were listed in the Honorable Mentions (4th to 8th Place). They were Michael Li and Eric Shen.

 

Former Olympiads School students Thomas Guo, who is currently studying in the U.S., received top three in the international division.

3) Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (COMC)

This year, nine students from across Canada won the Canadian Champions. Six of them were from Olympiads School. They were:

 

  • Silver Medal: Victor Rong
  • Bronze Medal: Howard Halim, Eric Shen, William Zhao
  • Honor Roll: Thomas Guo, Michael Li

 

Olympiads School’s students also did an amazing job in different Grades Divisions:

 

  • Grade 12 (awarded to 9 students in total)
    • Silver – Victor Rong
    • Bronze – Howard Halim and William Zhao
    • Honor Roll – Bill Qin

 

  • Grade 11 (awarded 11 students in total)
    • Silver – Michael Li
    • Honor Roll – Brian Chau, David Tang, and Kevin Wan

4) Seven students from Olympiads School qualified for 2019 Canadian Mathematics Winter Camp

This year, 14 students in total from Canada were invited to the 2019 Canadian Mathematics Winter Camp. There were 7 students from Olympiads School who received invitation to the 2019 Winter Camp. They were William Zhao, Victor Rong, Thomas Guo, Howard Halim, Michael Li, David Tang, and Jennifer Liang.

5) Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiads (APMO)

In 2019 APMO, students from Olympiads School received top 3 among all Canadian candidates.

 

  • 1st Place: Victor Rong
  • 2nd Place: William Zhao
  • 3rd Place: Thomas Guo

 

Another two students from Olympiads School got into top ten among Canadian candidates. They were David Tang (7th Place) and Michael Li (8th Place).

6) United States of America Mathematical Olympiad (USAMO)

In 2019, 16 Canadian students qualified for USAMO. Nine of them were from Olympiads School. They were William Zhao, Victor Rong, Howard Halim, Michael Li, Eric Shen, David Tang, Alex Xu, Thomas Guo, and Bill Qin.

7) Harvard-MIT Mathematics Tournament (HMMT)

This year, almost a thousand competitors attended the HMMT. Victor Rong received 7th place in the individual overall score and Michael Li received 35th place.

Victor Rong achieved 9th place; Bill Qin and Michael Li achieved 42nd place;

  • Geometry

Victor Rong achieved 14th place; Howard Halim achieved 29th place (In UTS team);

  • Combinatorics

Victor Rong achieved 19th place; Michael Li achieved 21st place; Chau achieved 24th place (Usually in the individual competitions, top 50 will be listed on the honorable list)

Physics Competitions

1) International Physics Olympiad (IPhO)

In 2019, there were 3 students from Olympiads school selected to the Canadian national team. They were Isaac Liao, Eric Shen,Roger Li, who represented Canada to IPHO, which held in Israel.

2) Canadian Association of Physicists (CAP)

David Tang achieved 3rd place in CAP, which was held on April 9th, 2019. Eric Shen, Isaac Liao and Roger Li achieved 4th to 6th place.

3) International Young Physicists’ Tournament (IYPT)

This year, six students represented Canada in the 32nd IYPT and received a team Bronze medal. They were Clark Li, Dave Singh, Raymond Lin, Andrew Marin, Jason Xiong. All of them were trained at Olympiads School.

Chemistry Competitions

1) International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO)

Olympiads School students Eric M. Shen and Colin Cai were selected to the Canadian national team and represented Canada to participate IChO in Paris, France 2019.

 

Eric Shen received a Silver medal.

2) Canadian Chemistry Olympiad (CCO)

The CCO was held in April 2019. Four students from Olympiad School got into top 16 of Ontario. They were Eric M. Shen, Michael Chen, Ivan Kwong, and Andy Xia.

Computer Science Competitions

1) International Olympiad of Informatics (IOI)

In 2019, four students from Olympiads School students had been selected to the national team. They were Victor Rong, Kevin Wan and George Chen. They went to Azerbaijan to participate in the IOI.

2) Canadian Computing Olympiad (CCO)

In 2019, 19 out of 27 students from Olympiads School were qualified to write the CCO. They achieved outstanding results in the CCO.

 

  • Eight students received gold medals. Five of them were from Olympiads School. They are George Chen, Thomas Guo, Howard Halim, Victor Rong, and Kevin Wan.

 

  • Nine students received silver medals. Seven of them were from Olympiads School. They were Juho Kim, Sunny Lan, William Li, Ava Pun, Junyi Wang, Richard Yi, and Evan Zhang.

 

  • Ten students received bronze medals. Two of them were from Olympiads School. They were Allen Pei, Alex Xu, and Royi Luo.

Michael Smith Science Contest

This year, a total of 1266 students participated in the Michael Smith Science Contest. Rally Lin achieved the National Winner. Many other students achieved great results as well:

  • 1st Place: Rally Lin, National Winner
  • 4 students top 1%, they were Rally Lin, King Wang, Andy Gong, Vinson Zhang
  • 2 students top 3%, they were Edward Wu, Zhao Yan
  • 7 students top 10%, they were Hector Chen, Rena Liu, Yiming Sun, Feiyu Lin, Lucas Zhang, Maxwell He, Allan Yin

2019 World Schools Debate Championships

Three students from Olympiads School were selected to the Canadian national team and represented Canada to attend the WSDC in Thailand this year.

 

  • Finalists Naomi Panovka, Max Rosen, and Angela Li

Harvard College World Schools Invitational (HCWSI)

This competition was held on March 8th to 10th, 2019. This was the first time Olympiads School attended this competition.

 

In the final round, Canada A team beat the American A team and won the championship. All students from Canada A team were trained at Olympiads School. They were Angela Li, Max Rosen and Naomi Panovka. The Canada B team reached the quarterfinal. Olympiads School student Alice Chen was in the B team.
