Starting April 10, Olympiads School will open a few new Euclid classes. They are held once a week, two hours per class. Now, students who are in the Grade 11 math competition class can continue to take the Euclid class. Below is the detailed schedule for the classes.

Olympiads School will open a new Euclid competition course. The following information is an introduction to the Euclid competition and the arrangement of this course:

1. What is the Euclid Math Competition?

The Euclid competition is a Grade 12 math competition hosted by the University of Waterloo. The Euclid competition provides a great opportunity for high school students to test their problem-solving abilities. This competition is open for anyone at or below Grade 12. Last year, a total of 20944 students participated in this competition.

The Euclid competition is a 2.5 hour-long competition. It has ten questions out of 100 points. Some problems only require a final answer while other require full solutions. For the questions that require full solutions, partial marks may be awarded even if the final answer is incorrect.

The Euclid competition covers the vast majority of the high school math content. Of course, simply understanding the concepts is not enough. Students must practice difficult problems to get better.

2. The Importance of Writing the Euclid Competition

The importance of the Euclid competition can be found on the University of Waterloo admission requirements website here. We highly recommend students who are interested in math related program in university to write the Euclid and the CSMC. There two competitions can help students train their problem-solving skills and build a solid foundation for university studies.

Although participating in the Euclid competition is not a require, it is highly recommended for students who would like to apply for scholarships. It will help students stand out among their peers.

University of Waterloo website specifically mentioned that participating in the Euclid competition will greatly increases a student’s chance of acceptance in programs such as computer science, software engineering, and all math related programs.

3. Olympiads School Students’ Euclid Competition Results

• In 2019, three students from Olympiads School received a perfect score (100) on the Euclid competition. They are Victor Rong, Howard Halim, and Michael Li. There were five students in Canada who received a perfect score. All three students from Olympiads School received the Plaque, which is only given out to the top five Euclid contestant.

In addition, there are a lot of students from the Olympic School ranked in Group 2 to Group 5:

• Group 5 (Scores 85 – 83)

• In 2018, Olympiads School student Jeffrey Liu received a perfect score. He was the only student in Canada who received a perfect score that year. Victor Rong from Olympiads School received second place with a score of 99. They were the only two students from the GTA who received the Plaque.

• In 2017, Olympiads School student Thomas Guo received first place with a score of 99. A total of three students from Olympiads School received the Plaque. They are Thomas Guo, Howard Halim, and Jason Yuen. They are the only three students from the GTA who received the Plaque.

4. New Euclid Classes
